Joseph Haggerty, MD
Dr. Joseph Haggerty is the most senior partner in
our group.
He received his medical degree from the St. Louis University
School of Medicine in 1971. Following that, he completed his
orthopaedic training with the San
Francisco Orthopaedic Residency Program in 1976,
where he has been serving as a faculty member since 1978. After
his residency, Dr. Joseph Haggerty served for 2 years in the
US Navy as a Lt. Commander, where he ran the Knee Surgery Department
and did all the spine surgery for the Navy for the Northwestern
United States.
In 1978, he joined San Francisco Orthopaedic Surgeons
and has been a member of the group ever since, for over 30 years.
Dr. Haggerty was the team physician for the San Francisco 49ers
in the 1978-79 seasons, taking care of sports injuries in world-class
athletes. He has been on active staff at St. Mary’s Medical
Center since 1978 and is one of the most-trusted and most-senior
physicians at the hospital. Dr. Haggerty has been a Team Doctor
for the University of San Francisco athletic team since 1978,
and in 1993 he was inducted into the USF Athletic Hall of Fame.
Dr. Haggerty now specializes in non-operative treatment of orthopaedic
conditions and is adored by his patients as well as colleagues
for his kindness, attention to detail and expertise.
